ABOUT
Trade secrets protection provides an alternative to intellectual property rights to protect know-how and business information and allow European businesses, irrespective of their size, to maximize the profits derived from its creativity and innovation and have an important role in protecting the exchange of knowledge. An efficient trade secrets protection is a critical element to strengthen Europe’s leading position as a global leader in research and development.

The EU Directive 2016/943 on the protection of trade Secrets recently approved, in its own words, seeks to “approximate the laws of the Member States so as to ensure that there is a sufficient and consistent level of civil redress in the internal market in the event of unlawful acquisition, use or disclosure of a trade secret”. The Directive harmonises the definition of trade secret (which will comprise technological, business and commercial information) and lays down common rules, legal remedies and procedures to enforce trade secrets and protect confidential information in court proceedings.

The fourth Pan-European LESI Young Members Event is aimed at providing an overview of the recently approved Directive and allowing the exchange between young practitioners in the licensing and technology transfer field of ideas and good practices for taking full advantage of the current framework, as well as creating and promoting a culture for the protection of know-how and business information created within our relevant organizations.

The event shall finally tackle the most significant challenges of the Unitary Patent Package in the current post-Brexit referendum scenario.

The Pan-European LESI Young Members Event is free of charge for LES Members, including the post-event networking dinner at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, home of Real Madrid football team.
