On June 1, 2022, Bill 96, which makes sweeping amendments to the Charter of the French Language, received Royal Assent. The webinar will focus on the changes that relate to the use of trademarks that contain text in a language other than French, which will come into force on June 1, 2025. As part of this discussion our panelists will describe the current rules and the instances where registration of trademarks will become mandatory as of 2025, most particularly in signage, posted advertising and product inscriptions. They will also describe the new requirements for signage, which are a significant departure from the current requirements. Finally, they will highlight the increased risks that businesses face in terms of enforcement, both as a result of the increased powers gained by the regulator under the Bill, but also the new possibility of private litigation seeking to enforce compliance with Charter requirements, all this while taking into account what we have learned since last year.
