Current LESI President Fiona Nicolson (Bristows – London) will be joined by Tom Bombelles, Head, NGO and Industry Relations at WIPO (Geneva) and will provide introductory remarks.  Our guest speaker is Alice Min Soo Chun, CEO of Solight Design (New York City, NY).

  • Alice Min Soo Chun was a 2018 USPTO Patents for Humanity Award winner (For designing a portable solar light that has been distributed to over 200,000 people worldwide including many in refugee camp.) She was also profiled in Hillary and Chelsea Clinton's recent book, "Gutsy Woman."  Her lights have been distributed for disaster relief in 25 countries since 2010 by working with NGOs such as United Way and Operation Blessings.
  • First celebrated in 1999, and each year after on April 26, World IP day highlight the role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity.  With the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization, events are generally planned throughout the following week. LESI has regularly planned events this day.  This year's theme is "Innovate for a Green Future." As described on the WIPO website, "Why? Because the choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. The earth is our home. We need to care for it."

We will end the session with a global "Toast" to World IP Day! You may toast with coffee (while enjoying your toast), water, champagne or something stronger depending on your time zone and preference.
See you online!
