This two–day course with the aim to succeed at technology commercialisation has been jointly developed by LESI and the European Patent Office. It is designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive set of tools and techniques for putting IP at the heart of their business strategy.
The course is designed for intellectual capital and business development managers as well as entre– and intrapreneurs with great ideas who are looking to perform at the highest level. It is also intended for their advisors. You might be from an SME, a start–up, a spin–out, an emerging enterprise, a MNC, the technology transfer business or a research organisation.
The attendees must be prepared to study the distributed documents in advance of the course. The case study plays in the health and medtech sector.
The scenario is to design an industry 4.0 ICU console by collaboration of three companies. The scenario invented during the Corona pandemics deals with smart health and telemedicine that involves (at least part of) patient specific customised therapy, remote monitoring of ICU patients, machine learning, neural networks, big data and artifical intelligence.
The case study is built up with a scenario of three players, namely: (1) CURA-UNITAS is a major supplier of complete ICU systems that has built up a strong know-how position over the years comprising valuable data; (2) VENTILIZON is a multi-national med tech company that supplies ventilation systems for ICU patients. A small but vital part of such an ICU is the ventilation system Updated 19 March 2025 that is provided at the bed of a patient and is controlled by a medical console. VENTILIZON has market power (but no patents in the industry sector). (3) NEBULIZE is a start-up company with a patented solution for improved nebulizers. A nebulizer is a delivery device that creates a mist which is inhaled into the lungs. It can be used to administer medication both for hospital and home use.
The scenario of the case study plays a situation of an industry need to develop a smart ICU console that allows telemedicine inside and outside of hospitals. The three parties need to collaborate, each party trying to maximise its strengths while recognising during that they depend on each other.
