IMPAC3T-IP is an EU-funded Coordination and Support Action designed to navigate the evolving landscape of intellectual property (IP) licensing. This initiative is developing a toolbox and training programme to equip a broad spectrum of IP stakeholders – including licensing professionals, TTOs, researchers, innovative enterprises, and policymakers – with the knowledge and tools necessary to adapt to an evolving licensing landscape.
Three core licensing scenarios:
The IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox and training programme focus on three licensing scenarios:
- Classical Plus: Extending beyond the traditional goal of economic return from industrial rights, this approach supports broader societal impact through diverse asset utilisation.
- Crisis: Facilitating more Equitable Access to critical technologies, particularly in response to emergencies (such as medical crises), with a strong emphasis on supporting Lower- and Middle-Income Countries.
- Co-creation: Addressing the complexities of IP generated within multi-stakeholder partnerships, where multiple owners and varied licensing objectives intersect.
This framework ensures that licensing adapts to emerging challenges and technological advancements, including the digitalisation of licensing mechanisms.
IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox and Academy
At the heart of the initiative, the IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox comprises specialised scenario-based toolkits, offering stakeholders practical insights into navigating licensing shifts, leveraging case studies, optimising IP assets, and building-up their expertise, knowledge and skills.
To drive adoption and implementation, the IMPAC3T-IP Academy will provide a certified training programme. This initiative aims to establish a network of certified practitioners and trainers, encouraging the creation of a community capable of effectively integrating the Toolbox into real-world licensing and commercialisation strategies.
