"Top Take-Aways" from the Session
The session highlighted key technologies driving change in the vehicles being designed and delivered.
• Large content creators ("over the top companies") increasingly control the market AND competing on (i) content, (ii) services offered, qnd (iii) features in their technology. Also, subject to more controls by regulatory authorities
• Technology companies (like SONY) have became creative entertainment companies with most of their income derived from entertainment content (as compared to hardware and software)
• Sport Industry - Traditionally focused on licensing OUT, now licensing IN to use new technologies.
• Music - Historically, licensed rights at national level; global licenses are now needed and IP, tax and data protection issues must all be considered.
• Metaverse - Present new challenges for agreement with the rights holders, particularly for fashion, music, sport and entertainment.
• The competition of the future is to adapt licensing models to the needs of consumers and the new society: custom-made contracts for students, family, groups of friends (e.g. Spotify)
