Innovation Trends Committee

Committee Charter

The Innovation Trends Committee is a horizontal and transversal organization within the structure of LESI Committees. It is responsible for monitoring the factors of change brought by innovation that significantly impact the current intellectual property framework, identifying any shortcomings, and proposing corresponding solutions.

Mission

The mission of the LESI Innovation Trends Committee is to detect all the potential innovation trends in areas where LESI is involved, assess long term needs concerning LESI activities, and propose to LESI new, adapted objectives for future activities in coordination with all existing Committees. In doing so, the Committee determines and updates in a regular basis its findings, and recommends to the LESI Board of Directors all necessary evolutions of LESI initiatives.

Goals

The goals of the Innovation Trends Committee include the following:

Foster and encourage communication between existing LESI Committees, e.g., help align medium/long term roadmaps and help building communities around common, long term innovation trends.

Develop and maintain list of priority technology and processes domains in which LESI is/should be active; present streams include:

  • Business Secrets (Lead Pierre Olivier)
  • Circular Economy & Recycling (Lead Andrè Gorius)
  • Alternative Food (Lead Hananel Kvatinsky)
  • Energy, Environment & Advanced Materials (Lead Rinaldo Plebani)
  • Traditional Knowledge Systems (Lead Gerard Verhoef)
  • Data Economy, New Technologies, New Production of Innovation (Lead Arved Waltemathe)
  • Innovation Collaboration group (Lead Johann Keith)

     

• Analyze Innovation Trends of and publish findings

• Organize transversal webinars on focused Innovation Trends, both to enhance communication on the letter and provide efficient platforms to debate on LESI priorities

• Organize and manage the annual LESI INNOVATION AWARD

The winners 2022 presented in Venice, Italy:

  • Lithoz GmbH a global market leader in ceramic 3D printing, as the winner in the “Small Enterprises” category
  • Northrop Grumman winning the “Large Enterprises” category.

The winners 2023 presented in Montreal, Canada:

  • BASF winning the “Large Enterprises” category
  • CIRC winner in the “Small Enterprises” category
  • Philippine Rice Institute winning the “Research Institution” category

The winners 2024 presented in Madrid, Spain:

  • Amaea, winner in the “Small Enterprises” category
  • Omnisient winning the “Digital Innovation Award
